Introduction

Witanworld exists to enable people around the world to share knowledge, exchange ideas, discover expertise, and build meaningful knowledge networks.

A trustworthy knowledge ecosystem depends on one fundamental principle:

The knowledge shared within the community must respect the intellectual property and creative rights of others.

Authors and contributors are encouraged to research widely, learn from existing knowledge, reference credible sources, develop new perspectives, and contribute their own expertise.

However, copying another person’s work and presenting it as your own is not acceptable.

Similarly, publishing photographs, illustrations, charts, research, documents, videos, or other copyrighted materials without the necessary rights or permissions may violate the rights of their owners.

This guide explains Witanworld’s expectations regarding:

  • Copyright
  • Content ownership
  • Plagiarism
  • Originality
  • Quotations and citations
  • Third-party content
  • Images and visual materials
  • AI-assisted content
  • Republishing your own work
  • Copyright complaints
  • Content removal
  • Repeat violations

This guide should be read together with the Witanworld Terms & Conditions and other applicable publishing and community policies.

1. The Core Principle

Witanworld’s approach can be summarized simply:

Create what is yours. Credit what is someone else’s. Use third-party material only when you have the right to use it.

Publishing on Witanworld does not give a contributor permission to copy material merely because that material is publicly available online.

Likewise, giving credit to the original creator does not automatically create permission to reproduce copyrighted material.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that content they submit complies with applicable laws, intellectual-property rights, Witanworld’s Terms, and publishing policies.

2. Who Owns the Content You Create?

You Retain Ownership of Your Original Content

Under Witanworld’s current Terms, users own the content they create and share on Witanworld.

Publishing an article on Witanworld therefore does not, by itself, transfer the author’s underlying ownership of that original work to Witanworld.

For example, if you independently create:

  • An original article
  • A research analysis
  • An illustration
  • An infographic
  • A photograph
  • A presentation
  • An educational resource

and you hold the necessary rights to that material, those underlying ownership rights remain yours, subject to any rights or licenses you have separately granted to others.

3. What Rights Do You Give Witanworld?

Although contributors retain ownership of their original content, Witanworld requires permission to operate, distribute, display, and make that content available through its services.

Under the current Terms, when you upload intellectual-property-protected content, you grant Witanworld a:

non-exclusive, transferable, sublicensable, royalty-free and worldwide license

to use the content in ways described in the Terms, including hosting, using, distributing, modifying, running, copying, publicly performing or displaying, translating, and creating derivative works consistent with applicable settings.

What does this mean practically?

It means:

You own your original content.

But:

You give Witanworld the permissions necessary to publish, operate, distribute, display, and support that content through Witanworld’s products and services in accordance with the Terms.

These are two different concepts:

Ownership ≠ Platform License

Granting Witanworld a license does not automatically mean Witanworld becomes the copyright owner of your original work.

4. Your Responsibility When Publishing

When you submit content to Witanworld, you should ensure that you either:

  1.  Created the content yourself;
  2. Own or control the necessary rights;
  3. Have obtained appropriate permission or a license to use it;
  4. Are using it under an applicable license and complying with that license; or
  5. Are otherwise legally entitled to use the material.

Witanworld’s Terms prohibit users from sharing material that infringes or violates the rights of others.

Therefore, do not assume that Witanworld’s editorial acceptance of an article establishes that you own all rights to its contents.

The contributor remains responsible for the material submitted.

5. What Is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism generally occurs when someone presents another person’s words, ideas, research, structure, analysis, creative expression, or other work as though it were their own without appropriate acknowledgement.

Plagiarism can involve much more than copying an entire article.

Examples may include:

Direct Copying

Copying sentences or paragraphs from another source without appropriate quotation or attribution.

Substantial Copying

Taking significant portions of another person’s article, research paper, report, book, or other work.

Patchwriting

Combining sentences or phrases from multiple sources while making only minor changes.

Inadequate Paraphrasing

Changing a few words while retaining substantially the same wording or expression.

Uncredited Ideas

Presenting another person’s distinctive research, analysis, framework, or original concept as your own.

Uncredited Translation

Translating someone else’s work into another language does not automatically make it original content.

Republishing Someone Else’s Content

Submitting an article written by another person under your own name is prohibited unless you have appropriate rights and the authorship and publishing arrangement are accurately represented.

6. Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement Are Not Identical

These concepts are related, but they are not the same.

  • Plagiarism primarily concerns presenting someone else’s work or ideas without appropriate acknowledgement.
  • Copyright infringement concerns unauthorized use of material protected by copyright.

A piece of content may potentially involve one, both, or neither depending on the circumstances.

For example, properly identifying the photographer of an image may address attribution, but it does not necessarily give you permission to reproduce that photograph.

Conversely, a person could have legal permission to reproduce certain content but still misrepresent who originally created it.

Witanworld contributors should therefore consider both questions:

Have I properly credited the source?

and

Do I have the right to use this material?

7. Research Is Encouraged—Copying Is Not

Authors are encouraged to conduct research before publishing.

You may consult:

  • Books
  • Research papers
  • Government publications
  • Industry reports
  • News publications
  • Academic resources
  • Websites
  • Databases
  • Interviews
  • Other credible sources

Research strengthens an article.

But your final article should contribute your own organization, explanation, analysis, interpretation, expertise, or perspective, while appropriately acknowledging material derived from other sources.

A useful principle is:

Research → Understand → Analyze → Write Independently → Cite

Not:

Search → Copy → Modify a Few Words → Publish

8. How to Use Quotations

Short quotations may sometimes be useful when the exact words of another person are important.

When quoting:

  • Clearly identify quoted language
  • Name the original source or author where appropriate
  • Provide a citation or reference
  • Use only the amount reasonably necessary
  • Do not construct an article primarily from quotations

Quotation and attribution do not automatically resolve every copyright issue.

The legality of using copyrighted material can depend on applicable law, jurisdiction, purpose, amount used, licensing, and other circumstances.

When uncertain about your rights, obtain permission or avoid reproducing the material.

9. How to Paraphrase Properly

Paraphrasing means explaining information genuinely in your own words and structure.

It does not mean replacing a handful of words with synonyms.

Poor approach

Original source:

Digital transformation requires organizations to redesign processes around emerging technologies.

Inadequate rewrite:

Digital transformation requires companies to redesign their processes using new technologies.

That remains extremely close to the source.

Better approach

A genuinely independent explanation might communicate the underlying idea using a different structure and your own analysis, followed by attribution where the idea or information warrants citation.

The goal is not to disguise the source.

The goal is to understand the source and contribute your own expression while acknowledging what came from others.

10. Cite Your Sources

Credible articles distinguish between:

Your original contribution

and

Information obtained from elsewhere.

Consider citing sources when using:

  • Statistics
  • Research findings
  • Survey results
  • Direct quotations
  • Distinctive theories
  • External datasets
  • Historical information
  • Technical claims
  • Material conclusions from another publication

Whenever possible, cite the original or authoritative source rather than a website that merely repeated the information.

For example:

Prefer: Original research paper

over

Avoid when possible: Blog summarizing the research paper

Good sourcing improves both integrity and credibility.

11. Images, Photographs & Graphics

Images found through a search engine are not automatically free to use.

The same applies to images found on:

  • Websites
  • News publications
  • Blogs
  • Social media
  • Image-search results
  • Other people’s Witanworld articles

Before uploading an image, ensure that you have appropriate rights to use it.

Acceptable sources may include:

  • Images you created yourself
  • Photographs you took yourself
  • Images properly licensed to you
  • Content supplied with permission
  • Material available under an applicable license whose conditions you follow
  • Other material you are legally entitled to use

When a license requires attribution, provide the required attribution.

12. Charts, Tables, Infographics & Data

Facts and underlying data can raise different intellectual-property issues from the creative presentation of those facts.

Do not simply screenshot or copy another organization’s:

  • Infographic
  • Chart
  • Diagram
  • Table
  • Research visualization

and assume that citing the organization is sufficient.

Where appropriate, consider creating your own original visualization based on properly sourced data, while clearly citing the data source.

For example:

Source: [Original Research Organization], [Report Name], [Year]

This improves both originality and transparency.

13. Research Papers & Academic Content

Witanworld supports knowledge and research sharing, and its FAQ expressly discusses publishing research and using information from articles for research while cautioning against complete copying.

Researchers submitting material should nevertheless ensure that they have the necessary publishing rights.

This is especially important where:

  • Research has already been published by a journal
  • A publisher holds exclusive publication rights
  • Multiple authors contributed
  • An institution owns certain intellectual property
  • Research contains licensed datasets
  • Third-party figures or images are included

Being an author does not necessarily mean you retain every publication right after signing a publishing agreement.

Check your agreement before republishing.

14. Republishing Your Own Previously Published Article

Owning an article does not always mean you are free to republish it everywhere.

You may have previously granted another publisher:

  • Exclusive publishing rights
  • Distribution rights
  • First-publication rights
  • Syndication rights
  • Other contractual rights

Before republishing your work on Witanworld, confirm that your existing agreements permit it.

If the content was previously published elsewhere, transparency is recommended where appropriate.

For example:

Originally published by [Publication] on [Date]. Republished with permission.

Where applicable, link to or identify the original publication.

15. Guest Posts & Content Submitted on Behalf of Others

If you are an agency, representative, organization, SEO provider, publisher, or other intermediary submitting content on behalf of another party, you are responsible for ensuring that the submission has been properly authorized.

Do not submit:

  • Stolen articles
  • Scraped content
  • Articles purchased without appropriate publishing rights
  • Content falsely attributed to another author
  • Unauthorized branded materials
  • Copyrighted images without appropriate rights

Commercial submission does not reduce copyright responsibilities.

Paid publication is not permission to infringe intellectual-property rights.

16. AI-Assisted Content

Artificial intelligence can assist with:

  • Research organization
  • Brainstorming
  • Outlining
  • Editing
  • Grammar
  • Summarization
  • Draft development

But AI assistance does not eliminate the contributor’s responsibility for the final submission.

Authors should review AI-assisted material for:

  • Originality
  • Accuracy
  • Fabricated citations
  • Incorrect attribution
  • Excessive similarity to existing sources
  • Unauthorized reproduction
  • Factual errors

Do not assume that text or images produced by an AI system are automatically free of intellectual-property concerns.

The person submitting the content remains responsible for ensuring that the final article complies with Witanworld’s publishing requirements.

For additional guidance, refer to:

AI-Assisted Writing Guidelines

17. Duplicate & Recycled Content

Witanworld encourages original knowledge contributions.

Avoid submitting content that substantially duplicates material already published:

  • On Witanworld
  • On another website
  • Under another author’s name
  • Across multiple accounts

If you are adapting your own earlier work, make meaningful improvements and disclose prior publication where appropriate.

Repurposing knowledge can be useful.

Misrepresenting recycled material as completely new work is not.

18. What Witanworld May Do When Plagiarism or Infringement Is Suspected

Witanworld’s Terms permit removal of content that violates applicable provisions and contemplate account action, including disabling accounts in cases involving repeated infringement of others’ intellectual-property rights.

Depending on the circumstances, Witanworld may therefore take actions consistent with its Terms and applicable policies, which can include:

  • Reviewing the content
  • Requesting clarification
  • Requesting evidence of authorization or ownership
  • Rejecting a submitted article
  • Removing or restricting content
  • Requesting correction or attribution
  • Taking action against an account
  • Taking stronger action in cases of repeated violations

The appropriate response may depend on factors such as severity, evidence, recurrence, applicable law, and Witanworld’s governing Terms and policies.

19. Repeat Infringement

Repeated intellectual-property violations are particularly serious.

Witanworld’s Terms specifically state that an account may be disabled where a user repeatedly infringes other people’s intellectual-property rights.

Therefore, repeated violations may result in stronger account-level enforcement rather than simply removal of individual content.

20. Reporting Copyright or Intellectual-Property Concerns

If you believe content on Witanworld infringes intellectual-property rights, use Witanworld’s available reporting or contact mechanisms and provide sufficient information for the matter to be reviewed.

A useful report should ordinarily identify:

  • The copyrighted or protected work
  • The Witanworld content in question
  • The location or URL of the content
  • The basis of your claim
  • Your relationship to the rights holder
  • Relevant supporting information
  • Appropriate contact information

Witanworld’s Terms expressly encourage users to report content or conduct believed to violate their rights, including intellectual-property rights.

Do not knowingly submit false or misleading infringement claims.

21. What If Someone Copies Your Witanworld Article?

Remember that public information and content may potentially be viewed, accessed, reshared, or downloaded through third-party services, search engines, APIs, or other means, as described in Witanworld’s Privacy Policy.

If another party reproduces your work without authorization:

First, preserve evidence.

Record the relevant URLs, publication dates, screenshots, and other supporting information.

Second, establish your ownership or rights.

Keep original drafts, publication records, source files, and other evidence demonstrating creation or ownership.

Third, use the appropriate reporting process.

If the allegedly infringing material is on Witanworld, report it to Witanworld. If it appears elsewhere, you may need to use that service’s intellectual-property reporting procedure.

Complex ownership disputes may require independent legal advice.

22. Copyright Does Not Mean You Own Facts

Copyright generally protects original expression rather than giving someone ownership over every fact, subject, concept, or idea discussed in an article.

Two authors can independently write about:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Leadership
  • Healthcare
  • Climate Change
  • Cybersecurity

or virtually any other subject.

The issue is not simply whether two articles discuss the same topic.

The concern arises when someone improperly copies protected expression or misappropriates another person’s work.

Witanworld encourages people to explore the same subjects from different experiences, expertise, research, analysis, and perspectives.

That diversity strengthens the Knowledge Network.

23. Author Pre-Publication Copyright Checklist

Before submitting content to Witanworld, ask:

Did I write or create this content myself?

If another person contributed, have they been properly acknowledged?

Have I clearly identified quotations?

Have I cited important external research and sources?

Have I genuinely paraphrased rather than lightly rewritten copied text?

Do I have the right to use every image?

Do I have rights to any charts, tables, diagrams, or graphics included?

Have I checked previously published material for contractual restrictions?

If this is research, do I have the necessary republication rights?

Have I verified AI-assisted material?

Are my citations genuine and accurate?

Is authorship represented accurately?

Does the article add meaningful original knowledge, analysis, experience, or perspective?

Could I provide evidence of permission or ownership if requested?

If you cannot confidently answer these questions, resolve the issue before submitting the article.

24. Quick Reference: Acceptable vs. Unacceptable

Scenario Guidance
Write an original article from your expertise ✅ Encouraged
Research several credible sources and write independently ✅ Encouraged
Quote a limited passage with appropriate attribution where lawful ✅ Generally appropriate, subject to applicable rights
Cite statistics from an authoritative source ✅ Recommended
Create your own chart using properly sourced data ✅ Recommended
Use an appropriately licensed image and follow its license ✅ Appropriate
Copy paragraphs and add the source at the bottom ❌ Not acceptable merely because attribution was added
Replace several words in someone else’s article ❌ Plagiarism concern
Translate another author’s article and claim authorship ❌ Not acceptable without appropriate rights/attribution
Copy an image found through Google Images ❌ Do not assume permission
Submit another person’s article under your name ❌ Prohibited
Fabricate references or citations ❌ Not acceptable
Use AI to disguise copied material ❌ Not acceptable
Submit copyrighted content because publication was paid for ❌ Payment does not create copyright permission

25. The Witanworld Standard

Witanworld’s knowledge ecosystem depends on trust.

Readers should be able to trust that:

  • Authors stand behind what they publish.
  • Original creators receive appropriate recognition.
  • Sources are represented accurately.
  • Knowledge is shared responsibly.
  • Intellectual-property rights are respected.

Authors should therefore follow a simple standard:

Create Original Knowledge

Bring your experience, expertise, analysis, research, and perspective.

Credit Other People’s Knowledge

Acknowledge the people and sources that informed your work.

Respect Ownership

Don’t use copyrighted material simply because you can access it online.

Verify Before Publishing

Check quotations, sources, permissions, images, and AI-assisted material.

Take Responsibility

You are responsible for the content you submit.

Conclusion

Witanworld is designed to enable knowledge to travel across people, communities, disciplines, organizations, and borders.

For that ecosystem to work, knowledge sharing must be built on originality, attribution, transparency, ownership, and respect.

Publishing on Witanworld does not mean surrendering ownership of the original content you create. Under Witanworld’s current Terms, contributors retain ownership while granting Witanworld specified licensing rights necessary to provide its services. At the same time, contributors must respect the intellectual-property rights of others.

Before publishing, remember three questions:

Did I create it?

If I didn’t create it, have I credited it appropriately?

Do I have the right to use it?

When those principles become part of every author’s publishing process, the result is more than compliant content.

It creates a more credible, trustworthy, and valuable global Knowledge Network.
